SAAB's been doing it for years, mashing up airplanes and cars. The first prototype was built 30 meters underground at a secret airplane factory and that heritage has been part of SAAB design ever since, from wing shaped profiles to wrap around cockpits.

This JAS design continues that fine tradition by borrowing as many elements from the modern JAS 39 Gripen fighter jet as possible. From the forward mounted glass cockpit to the vortex pods at the rear of the car to control the wake of the airflow, the JAS is a veritable street fighter with the aeronautical credentials of one of the greatest modern jets.

Full length venturi channels under car create enough downforce to negate the need for a rear wing and the scoops on the side of the car steer the airflow back through the rear of the car to create the smallest aerodynamic impression. The wheelhouses are fully ventilated to reduce pressure build-up and the front of the car consists of dynamically active blades to control downforce and pressure distribution.

The idea for the JAS originated after a meeting with former GM head of design, Ed Welburn, discussing the great aesthetics of the LMP racing cars and reminiscing over our common ground working in the SAAB design office.
